Just as there was disagreement over the issue of slavery, there was also disagreement over whether a slave should be allowed to hold a patent. Some people said anyone who came up with an original idea should be allowed to patent it. It should not matter whether that person was free or a slave. Others said that, because a slave, was his or her master's property, anything that a slave produced, including ideas, belonged to the master as well. This poster pays homage to the millions of Africans and African Americans whose ideas were lost or stolen during the middle passage. This "24x36" unframed, full color poster is visibly stunning and profiles over 70 US Black patent holders and many African and African American men and women responsible for the great advances that make human, social, technological, scientific, and economic progress possible.
